It doesn't ask for your screen

It lives on your taskbar

A low, always-visible strip right above the taskbar. While you work, study or watch something, your heroes walk, fight and loot. The windows — Forge, Character, Map, Skills, Codex — only open when you want to decide something.

What awaits

A whole MMORPG, 176 pixels tall

  • 4 classes × 3 lineages

Knight, Huntress, Sorceress and Beastmaster. Every class has three lineages, each with its own weapons and role.

  • 144 skills

Skill trees you build with gold; skills cast themselves in combat, in the order of your hotbar.

  • 10 mounts

From the Tusked Boar to the Young Drake. Griffin, Hippogriff and Drake fly — and heroes fight mounted.

  • Refine up to +10 with gems

The real odds show before every attempt, there's a guarantee after failures, and the item never breaks.

  • Water, quests and bosses

18 regions, each with its own boss. Entry-item quests and the Water Scroll: 8 timed rooms and a boss.

  • Party of 4 heroes

Up to four heroes at once, together or in different regions. In a party, XP gets a bonus of up to 220%.

  • Local PvP duels

Put two of your heroes in the arena: real combat, countdown, crowd and ranking — all on your computer.

  • Optional offline progress

Turn it on and get what your heroes hunted while the game was closed (up to 24 h). Off by default.

  • Light: ~185 MB of RAM

Runs at 15 frames per second and stays out of the way of your work.

The Forge

The refine you know, without the cruel part

You remember +9. The sweaty click. The odds nobody ever told you. In War of Dusk the odds are on screen, the guarantee gets closer with every failure, and the item never breaks.

  • Public odds

Every step shows the real chance and how many failures are left until the guarantee. The Codex reads the game's own tables.

  • The item never breaks

Failing costs materials and brings the guarantee closer. The tension is how far you push — not losing what you love.

  • Beyond +9, with gems

Two identical +9 items, gems and the Sage's Stone. The +10 merges them, adds a bonus stat and a glow in the gem's colour.

Frequently asked questions

FAQ

When does it launch?

Soon, on Steam. Add War of Dusk to your wishlist to be notified at launch — it also helps an independent game a lot.

How much will it cost?

The planned price is US$ 5.99 (R$ 20.49 on the Brazilian store), a one-time purchase: no subscription, no ads, no microtransactions. The final price is the one shown on Steam.

Do I need internet or an account?

No. War of Dusk is single-player, works offline, and has no account and no own server. Achievements and Steam Cloud work when Steam is running.

Will it get in the way of my work or slow my PC?

It's built not to: it runs at 15 frames per second, uses about 185 MB of RAM and only takes a thin strip above the taskbar. The game windows only open when you want them.

Do heroes progress while the game is closed?

Only if you want. With offline progress on, opening the game gives you the result of up to 24 hours of hunting. It's off by default.

Can refining destroy my item?

Never. Failing costs materials and brings the guarantee (pity) closer. The chance of every attempt is on screen before you click.

Is there multiplayer?

There's no online mode. Your party is made of your own heroes (up to four), and arena duels pit heroes from your save against each other, on your computer.

Which platforms and languages?

Windows 10 and 11 (64-bit), on Steam. Interface and text in English and Brazilian Portuguese. Mac and Linux are not planned for version 1.0.

Why inspired by WYD?

Because many of us learned to play online with the MMORPGs of the 2000s — the tense refine, the classes, the mounts, the bosses. War of Dusk brings that feeling to a format that fits your day.

Does the game use AI?

Some of the art (sprites, backgrounds, icons) and the music were created with generative AI tools during development, then reviewed and edited by the developer. Nothing is generated while the game runs. Code, systems, balancing, text and sound effects were made by the developer.
